Notes are reviewed for accuracy. If you don’t want your doctor to use AI book a double visit to allow them time to type up the entire encounter themselves.

one of my drs informed me she was using it. when I expressed that I wasn't comfortable and didn't concent to it, she told me she wasn't asking and that I didn't get to decide her practice 🥲 this is in BC

I requested my files from the hospital to take to a doctor appointment. It noted that they used transcription software. They had it noted that I was a smoker (never smoked), that I drink weekly (also not true), and that I was there for pain in my head. I was there for a kidney stone, which was correct later in my file.

once upon a time, I worked as a medical transcriptionist... those of us in the industry have seen this coming for YEARS. AI in medical notes has never been good, and clearly it still hasn't gotten any better

Y’all I have plenty of issues with AI, but as a family doctor, this has literally changed my life. I’m no longer skipping lunch, I’m on time for my appointments, I see more patients in a day. The issue is more that some doctors aren’t using AI as a tool that you still have to read back and edit. I sure don’t trust it to get everything right, but family doctors are burning out every day, and this is saving us.

Our healthcare system is extremely strained. Using AI to assist with charting has been a game changer for me (a clinical psychologist). It has cut down on the amount of time I spend on notes by half, allowing me to have more face to face time with patients. Of course there are inaccuracies - this is no surprise. All notes are reviewed very carefully and edited. The way AI usage is being portrayed is simply inaccurate. If we want a more efficient healthcare system, with shorter wait times, then we should embrace it.

You are scarring people about AI and it’s not warranted here. AI is not the enemy. AI helps the doc complete the notes faster. It’s a lot faster to correct than to write the entire note yourself. If doc can’t make the visit note at all or is writing it days after the apt, I believe that is much worse than the chance of missing something needing correcting in the AI typed note. If you want docs to not use AI then their apts need to be longer and compensation must be restructured.
