Why beginners should learn flip turns step by step ↓ One of the biggest mistakes swimmers make is trying to copy advanced flip turns too early. If you’re learning from zero, technique should be built step by step. You can’t jump straight to the final version — because first you need body awareness, control, and timing in the water. 1️⃣ Beginner — build control At this stage, flip turns often feel confusing. • You may end up on your back without understanding why • You don’t know how to get back into the correct position • Everything feels chaotic So we simplify the movement: • Focus on shoulder rotation • Learn how to return to your stomach after the flip This helps you understand body position and feel more in control in the water. 2️⃣ Advanced — improve timing Now you understand the movement, but it’s still not efficient. • Rotation is too big or too late • Timing is inconsistent • Extra movement slows you down So we refine it: • Make the rotation smaller • Clean up unnecessary movement • Improve timing 3️⃣ Pro — maximize speed At this level, it becomes all about efficiency. • Explosive push-off • Rotation during the glide • No unnecessary movement Everything is fast, controlled, and minimal. 💡 It’s great to aim for the final version — but progression takes time. Comparing a beginner to an elite swimmer doesn’t make sense. Elite turns come from hours of practice, body control, and repetition — both in and out of the pool. #swim #swimtips #swimcoach
