Le premier modèle, le Tiger I, entra en service en 1942. Il était équipé d’un canon de 88 mm capable de détruire la plupart des chars alliés à longue distance. Son blindage épais le rendait très difficile à percer, ce qui lui donna une réputation redoutable sur tous les fronts. Cependant, son poids important entraînait de nombreuses pannes mécaniques et une consommation énorme de carburant. En 1944 apparut le Tiger II, aussi appelé Königstiger ou Tigre Royal. Ce modèle possédait un blindage encore plus épais et un canon plus performant, faisant de lui l’un des chars les plus puissants du conflit. Malgré leurs qualités, les Tiger étaient coûteux à produire et trop complexes pour être fabriqués en très grand nombre. this is a copy paste of my old comment,but point still stands. Let's get the myth out of the way that the P in the Tiger 2(P) stands for Porsche. I'm quoting this from a book called "German tanks of world war 2" by David Porter. "Krupp designed all three turrets for the tiger I and II - the so-called Porsche turret was simply the turret designed for Porsche's contender for the Tiger II,the Tiger P2" (The Tiger P2 is a whole different tank,made by porsche)
