@haydendeterra: 1️⃣ Your work is not only drawing. You have to sell yourself, be your own agent, community manager, answer your emails, do the accounting, and so much more. Drawing is just a part of the job (and believe me, I wish I could only focus on that). 2️⃣ Be picky about the projects you get. You’ll received various offers and if one doesn’t resonate with you, do not accept it. The mental weight of working several days, weeks or months on a project you doesn't align with is not something you want, trust me. You want to be proud of the projects you’ve worked on, even more because you’ll put them in your portoflio and they’ll be your showcase to find new clients. 3️⃣ Trust yourself during rush times. Deadlines are your worst enemy, but they can be your best friend too. Retro planning is a good tool to anticipate the amount of work and even if the rush times are scary, you can do it, you already did and you will do it again! 4️⃣ Set boundaries with your clients and with yourself. Do not let yourself burn into the passion, take breaks, do no make a hundred tasks to do lists everyday, be realistic with your work/life balance, there is time for both. And please, let yourself time to grow, create and draw without work pressure, you don't want to lose your spark. 5️⃣ Be your first fan! You have to wake up and be delulu about this book you’ll one day illustrate or this webtoon you’re making and that’s gonna explode for sure. Being your first supporter is the fuel for your own work and your self estime. If you do what you love and you believe in it, people will feel it and that’s when magic happens. 6️⃣ Do not accept less than you you’ve settled for. Prices seems to be a picky topic but you need to know your worth and do not accept amounts that doesn’t suit your needs. There are ressources helping you to know the market prices (en France on a l’ADAGP par exemple) so get informed and negociate, always! And read your contracts, twice if needed!! 7️⃣ Freelance rhymes with freestyle. Honestly, we’re a lot of artists not really knowing what we’re doing 100% of the time but you’ll learn along the way.

People forget the amount of non art stuff you have to do when doing it free time. I can’t, I love art too much to turn it into work, but all the powers to those who can balance it.
