One template is not going to work for every situation with given the run and rise would never be the same each time

I do the same. I add a vertical block too so I can slide it and it's flush with the outside edge so I'm able to mark the top of the stringer incase I run into a knot landing on the edge not giving me the full 1-1/2"

they have plenty of websites that can calculate any stairs. pretty handy since I dont do stairs to often

screw that thing onto a 2x4 on edge and slide it down the stringer to mark it out! Just speeds it up is all
