the idea that bad drafts can hide good ideas is so real. i’ve found random gold in my ugly notes on Olovka too

Saw someone say your fist draft is just you telling yourself the story. And that has helped me so much more than “just get it out/on paper”

I just posted about this earlier. When I wrote the first draft of my book, I wrote it in the format of a screenplay. You don’t have to worry about any of the bulky stuff like exposition. All I did was write the dialogue and the actions that pushed my narrative forward. I finished the script a few weeks ago and am now in the process of converting it into novel format and it’s going so smooth! Hope this helps!

I’ve always written the best first drafts at like 4:00 bc I think it’s good while extremely tired and I can go back an polish it when I’m awake

even better: the nanowrimo version. your only focus? reaching your word count for the book. everything else means nothing. no existing, no fixing, no slowing down or stopping to reconsider. Just spent 30 seconds editing? Undo it all and keep writing from there. Just tace to get words on the page. helps to imagine there's a bubbly friend over your shoulder laughing amd giggling about the whole process and how ridiculous it is and reminding you to just keep writing. 2000 words per day

I suppose that's why I always finished my silly little drafts when I was really younger. But when I read them now, I feel like they were stupid so I'm taking way too long to finish a draft. I REALLY should start elfing my stories out. I guess it's ok to sound stupid sometimes. Thank you!

I call the first draft "trash draft" to trick my brain into doing it that way. It's not just "allowing" myself to do it badly, but making it be expected, because doing a good job at writing it would mean doing a bad job at making it trash.

I don't knkw if this will help anyone, but I always think of great ideas when I'm in the shower, I have now got bath crayons (real thing) to jot those ideas down on the bathroom tiles before I forget them
