it's also important to mention it signifies Homura's own self-sacrifice, taking Madoka's place as a god but ending completely alone because of that. The half moon is Homura missing her other half (which we can see at the end of the movie too by her sitting into a chair alone and half of the world is missing where the other chair that belonged to Madoka was before)

Not only due to the counter of Kriemhild Gretchen's Sun. But the moon represents emotions, an always half moon is more like repression of emotions, hiding, being unable to move forward.

Remember that a central topic for the whole Rebellion movie is "Mada Dame Yo" ("Not yet"), the name of the ost motif that appears during the whole movie, including that last scene with the half moon. Pay attention to every time you listen to those specific notes, after the happy moments. It's basically saying not yet. That half moon represents how Homura stole half of the law of cycles. And how the moon is no full yet, the story isn't finished, and nobody has true a happy ending yet.

also, in mythology the moon is often a goddess permanently separated from her lover. if it's only a half moon, it could represent that madoka is only half of her true self, separated from herself to be trapped on earth. where she doesn't belong, even if her lover is happy.

I think the implication with the concept movie when it was split in 1/3s, its for the karmic powers. one half madoka one half homura. the thirds in the concept trailer cuz it implies mami gains some karmic postioning

I took the tarot card representing the work Homuras putting into the illusion and fragment of hope she cut from The Law of Cycle. Without Madoka existing as The Law of Cycle Homura had to maintain the flow of the universe somehow. The mechanical pieces and odd structure show how difficult it if for Homura to maintain this state. There’s a clip on the trailer where it cuts to her baggy eyes showing the amount of strain she’s put herself under.
