I'm still in disbelief that the Hyabusa is actually considered by the D.O.T as a touring bike and not a sport or race bike....I have an R1 and my motorcycle insurance is about $200-$300 a year more than a freaking 1200 Hyabusa..

I bought and fitted a TRE as soon as I got my Hayabusa back in 2003 all I know is it actually runs much smoother, I have absolutely no idea if it does more than 186 mph as I value my freedom too much.

99 Busa speedo went to 220. And yes the manufacturers did make an agreement that limited top speed to 187 (not 186). They introduced a timing retard that kicked in at 187 in 6th gear. If you hit that limit it would bounce between 187 and 186. Pretty soon a 3rd part company came out with a Timing Retard Eliminater (TRE) that told the bike it was in 5th gear all the time removing the top speed limit. Source: Sold Suzuki motorcycles for 10 years in the 2000’s.

The V-Strom Rocks. I've had three 1,000s. No, they aren't great on singletrack, but they're still fun on better trails. But they shine on pavement. I'd say they are 70% road and 30% trail.
