@nofret_egypt_: Holiest place in Dendera Temple High above and right behind the central barque sanctuary of Hathor’s temple in Dendera, hidden in the thickness of the rear wall, lies a small, secret chamber that can only be reached by ladder. At its centre, a relief shows the emblem of the goddess Hathor in a shrine, surmounted by a sacred sistrum crowned with a winged sun disk, flanked on both sides by the protective figure of the winged goddess Maat. This secluded space was a holy place, likely reserved for special ritual purposes, shielded from the eyes of ordinary visitors. Directly behind it, on the outer face of the wall, is the massive head of Hathor gazing outward — a symbolic pairing that linked the goddess’s divine presence inside with her watchful, beneficent gaze over the world beyond. #History #mystery #Egypt #dendera #travels
