The difference is that Israel is forcing the idea greater Israel, while the people who actually are ethnic to the land, wanted a greater Syria, though they would rather be an independent state then genocided and replaced by European Jews

What does that have to do with anything? Syrian Arabs believed in Pan-Arabism over a hundred years ago? In 1919 less than 10% of the population of Palestine was Jewish and the violence between the Haganah and Arabs in Palestine was still 10-20 years away.

First off the greater Syria project did not include the Sinai, Iraq, Kuwait, or Cyprus. That is the map of the Syrian national socialist party. Second off it’s because Syria Palestine Lebanon and Jordan all share a common identity culture and language, the same way German and Italian nationalism existed in the 1800s to unify. Greater Israel, rather, explicitly calls for the mass ethnic and religious expulsion of non ✡️’s to make way for Israeli settlers.

What is the point of this? Yeah the idea of a true “Palestinian” Identity is pretty new and if you go back to that time and before the people would just identify as a greater Syrian group. And if these people wanted this so what??? They are the people of the land. The west came in and carved up all this land after the fall of the Ottomans and backed the Zionist project, importing people who have never been in that region who now claim that all of this is their land merely after a century or so.

The “greater Syria” “movement” was a thing in the early modern and medieval eras because it was populated by the same type of Arabs (Levantine/syrian) and controlled by the same peoples for a long time (mamluks and ottomans)

I’ve been involved in various discussions about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict since 2012, yet I did not encounter the concept of the Greater Israel Project until 2024. I believe the idea of the Greater Israel Project is fabricated propaganda because, firstly, it is physically and logistically unfeasible for Israel to control such an extensive territory; their current military capabilities do not suffice to occupy and defend those areas. Secondly, the project lacks popular support among the Israeli population; the majority of Israeli civilians oppose expanding their territory to the extent proposed. While some American policymakers or thought leaders might speculate that Israel could stabilize the region by controlling that land, the mainstream U.S. government and public opinion favor maintaining a strategic balance that prevents Israel from becoming too dominant. The United States’s primary interest is safeguarding access to oil reserves and controlling key transport routes throughout the Arab world, not empowering Israel to extend its borders. Historically, Egypt and Syria aspired to establish a larger Arab empire; during the 1960s, they attempted to form a unified Arab coalition with coordinated military efforts, but these ambitions were thwarted by internal disagreements and regional conflicts by the late 1970s. Considering these nations, which at the time possessed greater military strength, advanced weaponry, and considerable regional support, failed to create a united Arab bloc, what basis exists to believe Israel could accomplish such a feat with minimal international backing and only a fraction of the military resources?
