Two reasons: it gives some rest to people living in a house or apartment just by the train line. And usually it’s between the last and the first train that train companies are doing maintenance.

It's literally the last train. Depending on the route, the service usually stops around midnight. You have to be mindful of the time😁

This is why I chose to live close to Shinjuku and Shibuya so if I need to take a taxi after the last train it’s under ¥3000

Night one I managed to catch the last midnight train. Night three I stayed too late out at the club and I was forced to get a taxi. they are too expensive.😂

well it's simply because there's a lot of maintenance that happens on the trains and the tracks between 1-5 am so unlike other countries they consistently run exactly on time with less problems during business hours
