He was deported from the United States back to Haiti together with 200 other Haitians on a deportation flight. Rocky told me he spent years locked up in the US under both the Biden and Trump administrations before finally being sent back to Haiti. Now he survives in the middle of the chaos of Port-au-Prince… and still dreams of returning to America one day. His nickname “Rocky” came from fighting in the streets. And after spending time with him in Haiti, I quickly realized he had lived a very different life than most people can imagine. For most of my time in Haiti, Rocky became my driver through gang-controlled areas, destroyed neighborhoods, and some of the most dangerous streets I’ve ever seen.
