@pagingdrfran: well i for one am excited to see where the new PMOS name takes us, and it’s not to “root cause lab testing” someone who bought a doctor title online. we deserve comprehensive, multi-disciplinary evidence-based care #PCOS #PMOS #doctorofacupuncture #polyendocrinemetabolicovariansyndrome
So what kind of doctor should I see if I think I have PMOS?

this is HUGE step. Acknowledging that this is a whole body/endocrine issue and going so far as to rename it will lead to less confusion over what this disorder is and can hopefully continue to spur more research into the why it exists at all.

Why is it important? Because now we should never hear "you can't see an endocrinologist for your ovaries" again. Because you can still have pcos/pmos even after a total hysterectomy. Because it's not just "having bad periods" or "having ovarian cysts." Acknowledging that it's a multisystem chronic illness is the first step (which should have happened a loooong time ago but that's a whole other can of worms)

"metabolic" signifies more to the greater medical community than "ovary cysts" 🥰

We ALL want to know the root causes of PCOS/PMOS … and the name change no only signifies what we have learned so far but where science is going to learn more. It’s such a great step.

It takes a minimum of 3000hrs to become a doctor of acupuncture. Usually much longer though. The only time it takes 360hrs is if you’re already a certain type of licensed health professional. It’s still not comparative to physician education, but certainly is a lot longer than what you’re describing.

The endo’s I follow are over the moon excited because they will see patients earlier to watch and monitor for comorbidities that they can start treating to make less patients suffer.

I’m confused.. when I read the headline about the name change, to me it felt like an indication that there’s been new developments and research on the condition. I saw it as a sign that progress is being made into understanding it better. Idk how she got the opposite from that?

My doc thought I may have PCOS but ruled it out because the US revealed no cysts..... now I'm wondering what the next steps are now that new research has come out

You hit the nail on the head!! The renaming of PMOS will encourage providers other than women’s health/OBGYNs to manage it because it’s not just an ovary problem!

I like dx that are correct, cause that means these groups of symptoms are a real thing, they're so real they have a name, and depending on what the condition is, theres treatments that help/cure/control said condition. like... probably pretty fucking important to know I have diabetes, and I have my fingers crossed PMOS gets there too.

I tried to get a referral to an endocrinologist for my insulin resistance PCOS… and they wouldn’t accept me because I wasn’t diabetic🫠 this was about 1-2 years ago so glad science is catching up!

I am a type 1 diabetic, with hoshimotos, and PMOS. I had a GLP-1 that made the insulin resistance SO MUCH BETTER. Then insurance played medicine so they took it away. I would love to find out how I could get insurance to cover it.

So where did you look at that information about becoming an acupuncturist because pretty much in every state of your information is misleading. I’m in Georgia and our educational standard to hear are crap can compare to most states but to become an acupuncturist here it’s an advanced masters degree the number of hours actually fall between a masters degree and what you need to for doctorate. And it has to be from a accredited and that’s nationally accredited by an actual medical accreting body. Then you have to pass the national board exam which isn’t just a test. It’s a written and physical test and then you have to be in an apprentice between one and a half and two years. And then you can apply for a liability insurance and your state license and within one year of getting your state license you have to have at least five letters of recommendation from a medical doctor. And it’s like this in most states.
