the method that the movie is made. artists and cgi work is paid properly and given time to have these intricate stages, where now studios just want to push stuff out as fast as possible

It’s really because they tested each effect to be sure it would work, before committing to using it in the final film. They went into principal knowing what shots they needed to get. These days studios don’t budget for that kind of preproduction work, so the directors on set are often just guessing.
