Dental hygienist here… not humiliating. You are doing what you have to for the time being. Dental stuff is expensive that’s why we push preventative dentistry so hard bit things happen and we do not judge.

A lot of people don’t understand dental issues are usually genetic. On top of you being predisposed to dental problems via parents, dental care is unaffordable for most. We need to spend less time judging people and more time dismantling the system that’s designed to make billions off of basic care and needs.
