no it's not amazing. the odyssey belongs to homer and homer alone. no one has the right to change the history he created. with the same reasoning to make a movie with nelson mandela played by harrison ford. wouldn't that be amazing?

Also, no one changed the original story. It's still there, you can go read it right now!

And disneys hamlet was called the lion king. Nolan presented this as the odyssey, he used Emily Wilson’s translation as promotional material like he was sticking to it in some meaningful way, he went out of his way to film in Greece. At what point does an adaptation just become another story? Why even call it the odyssey if it’s not the odyssey? At least Troy got that part right. Odysseus is not Odysseus, there are no gods present when they were some of the most prominent characters in the original, the message and themes are not the same, integral characters and interactions that shaped Odysseus, his arc and the story are gone. The fuck was even the point?

I don’t even think Lupita was birthed from a swan egg so I’m concerned about the historical accuracy

That commenter knows so much about Greek epics and story telling tradition but I don’t if they’ve ever heard of Euripideez

mythology also doesnt have 1 correct version, we have the ones that got written down, but who knows how many versions of any given myth exists... they aren't monolithic in nature

Well and it’s been reimagined since it was created for the time it was in. Everyone is so frustrating.

No, Oppenheimer part 2 was not an amazing interpretation of the Odyssey.

I think Nolan is going to go too serious with the feel of the movie. It's his choice but brother where art thou was my favorite telling in movie format. An epic is supposed to contain all the emotions, hence the name.

Yes, it should be presented as Homer intended - with the entire thing recited from memory in ancient Greek by a blind poet!
