@nurse.alexrn: Nursing schools love to do anything but teach you how to be a nurse #nursesoftiktok #nurselife #nursingschool #nursehumor #nursingstudent
Why am I taking out $70k in loans for nursing school when I am just going to learn on the job?!?! 😭😭😭

That’s because Clinical’s use us as PCT’s and not nursing students😭

In a few months, I will be a qualified nurse, and I feel like I can't do anything—or rather, that I didn't learn the most important things in school.

so what im hearing. is that they make you learn it on youre own time when the legal liability is on you rather than them.

Nursing school teaches how to pass the NCLEX. Your job teaches you to be a nurse.

Nursing school taught me absolutely nothing. I had to learn on the job.

What school did you go to? I’m with my students on the floor twice a week at clinicals and we’re putting in IV’s, foleys, hanging fluids, ABX, etc.

I was a lab tech and at a nursing home getting stat bloodwork. The only RN on the floor was a new grad and couldn’t get an iv started on this patient. She asked if I could show her. I sure did and I no longer work in medical but still talk to that girl and she still thanks me so much for teaching her cus she had gotten really good at it.

My daughter just did her FIRST clinical and is already doing all the things. It depends on what school you choose.

Here in our country Pakistan, the students start their clinical rotations by the first year where they learn in the supervision of professional Nurses. They get the exposure of real life scenarios and emergencies which prevents them from freezing in their first duties as a real nurse . They get to learn every basic nursing skill. As myself as a 2nd year(soon 3rd yr) Nursing student, I'm pretty much good at IVs.

Wow that’s insane!! In vet tech school, we learn how to do IV’s in school! We have surgery class and have dogs/cats assigned for us to be the anesthetist. We place their catheter, calculate their drugs, induce, intubate, monitor, etc. I figured human nursing would be the same.

Plumbers and electricians get to learn on the job for real. Nursing school was the worst experience of my life. I made it thru tho and kept going. Now a CRNA but definitely learned everything on the job.

Alex, when you gonna start teaching in nursing school? Clearly you need to be the one that starts making changes in a program near you. You can do it!

Training on the job is so much better than teaching it. Or practice on each other a lot of procedures

this is EXACTLY why they need more diploma and associate degrees for nursing. Hands on from DAY ONE! I've been a nurse for 35yrs and I can see the disservice being done to these students by the lack of hands in clinical experience.

It’s like teaching. You are expected to learn what to do on the job, barely any training is given.

That’s how all schools, especially trade schools are. The goal is to get your license, you need to have a passion and learn continuously in order to succeed in any field.
