Betting Is Doing More Harm Than Good The Government of Uganda should take stronger action to protect the young generation from the growing problem of gambling addiction. The current age limit alone is no longer enough to prevent many young people from betting. I propose that the government introduce a minimum betting stake of UGX 50,000 for every bet, whether it is on virtual games or regular online sports betting. This would discourage many young people from gambling away every small amount of money they earn. Many of us struggle with betting addiction. Whenever we get a little money, we immediately place a bet instead of using it for productive activities or saving for the future. However, raising UGX 50,000 just to place one bet would be difficult for many, reducing impulsive gambling. This policy would still allow the government to collect taxes from betting while helping to reduce gambling among vulnerable youth. Betting would become an activity for those who can genuinely afford it, while many young people would be encouraged to spend their money on education, business, farming, and other productive investments. I respectfully call upon the Government of Uganda and the relevant authorities to consider this proposal for the benefit of our country's future generation.
