@meet_the_robinsons321: Having Miles first, and him happening to have Down syndrome, made other people uncertain about us having more children. There’s a 10 year gap between our first and last baby, and I think some people assumed it would be “too much.” But what people don’t talk about enough is this, what about the older sibling *with* the disability? People often praise siblings for being patient, loving, and protective of their brother or sister with special needs — and they should. But Miles deserves that same recognition too. Because he became the most incredible big brother. He grew into that role with so much love, pride, gentleness, and joy. His brothers don’t just adore him because they “learn compassion” from him. They adore him because he’s fun, caring, protective, hilarious, and deeply invested in them. Their relationship was never something to fear.
