@beaucouphoodoo: TRIGGER WARNING: IS GOD IS is traumatizing and triggering AF. ___ I encouraged so many of yall to see the film (I still do). In fact, the ATRS BOOK CLUB saw it in different cities last night. I’m acknowledging, however that I was not prepared. DV isn’t even a part of my origin story or narrative (sexual abuse is though) so I was not triggered. But I was most certainly traumatized in a way that powerful art leaves you. The realness and raw REALITY of this film was one of the most nuanced and powerful social critiques of DV in our community that I have ever seen. ___ My proximity to sociopaths by extended association has been deeply concerning at least and terrifying at best. And it’s alarming how many people will turn a blind eye or make excuses for people’s horrific behavior. But then when women and children are unalived — everyone acts shocked and awed when chances are there were signs all along. Femicide is happening at alarming rates — globally. And we must do something about it. ___ I love me some Black men thanks to the ones who raised me but yall really got to do better. Go to therapy. Join support groups. GET SOME HELP. CONFRONT OTHER MEN WHO ARE VIOLENT in your SOCIAL CIRCLES AND FAMILIES. ___ Go see the film. The conversation needs to be had. Just prepare yourself to unpack a lot on the back end. #isgodis
