@tjrobertson52: Google dropped their AI ranking guide & honestly? What they told you NOT to do is the most useful part. Are you reading between the lines? 👀 #SEO #GEO #GoogleAI #AISearch
it's funny. you say that adding structured data doesn't help and then recommend Microsoft's guide which explicitly states that structured data is very important and is highly recommended.

To be clear this guide is for _their_ AI. Not all AI.

This is true, it can help in AI Overviews & Gemini, but the same strategies do work in ChatGPT, Claude, CoPilot & others.

I can imagine Google is moving on to creating snapshots of businesses rather than thinking of individual pieces of info found online. once it's got a central database its much easier to detect duplicate content anywhere in the universe.
and they don't need to ban your entire website they can assign relevant ratings and if your competition scores better that's your penalty.
unless of course you're just reckless and do stupid things outright.

questions will be how dependent future market will dependent on google to identify new solutions, other LLM getting good over time and some are getting segments specific vertical, Edge/Bing getting better, totally understand Google being lender in this space they seen many scammed and deep pockets marketing agency can overwhelm others. I sense future identifying vendors, solutions will change... change to what... we need to wait to see

And now a week later what are we to make of this? Granted it’s not the exact same as our current topic here but still. 🧐

Isn't the beast of Google dying, that would be more helpful. I have a feeling that this isn't just about search, just like they have been manipulating search more than anyone after 2016. I wish they would fail and more options would come. Gemini was just a way to make them relevant again, though aren't they going to slow down progress again just to appeal to political agenda. YouTube is one of the worst plateforme for search for example, this is probably the most heavily censored website on earth. I remember I couldn't even find a video on YouTube even if I knew the exact name of the video. Search had long been a censorship engine more than anything. Though we have to work with them, hopefully AI will help us move away to a better searchable www. I don't think Google will be the solution to that.
