good job. it was always meant to be saber, as seen in Last Episode, the end to fate route and the vn title itself. the mirrors to each other. saber, the girl reflecting off excalibur embodying the hopes and ideals of humanity, the reflection of shiro’s ideals, the boy and girl who inspired each other to save themselves, retain their pride and to never betray their path. “Oneself as an ideal” as nasu says in his words. to claim pride in the ideal you seek, to undo everything being the antithesis of that pride. the wannabe hero and the perfect king, ‘save the world’ and ‘save my people’. the utopian outcome they strive for, the ideal they proudly choose even when nothing binds them. and yet the irony is they reach the ever-distant utopia for themselves, after saving themselves, avalon. thanks merlin you owed saber £10 for ruining her life.
