@briefhisteria: How Forgotten Bengalis Built Hidden Lives In Harlem. Poor Muslim sailors from Bengal, then part of British India and modern Bangladesh, escaped brutal British steamships and secretly entered America in the early 1900s. Many settled in Harlem, married Black and Puerto Rican families, and created a hidden Indian diaspora. Over generations, most blended into American society and were forgotten by history. #Bengali #Bangladesh #History #Diaspora #india

My uncle was one of these men, he married a black woman who was the most beautiful soul I’ve ever met! I never met him but was fortunate enough to meet her.

The empire and all this started with The legendary treasure of Siraj-ud-Daulah, the last independent Nawab of Bengal, was systematically plundered and emptied immediately following his defeat at the Battle of Plassey in 1757. Following the betrayal of the Nawab, puppet ruler Mir Jafar opened the doors of the royal vault to Robert Clive. Clive filled boats and ships with gold coins, jewels, silver plates, rubies, and sapphires. The Clive Collection: Much of this personal plunder was transported back to the UK. Today, a large collection of these stolen Mughal artefacts and treasures is preserved at Powis Castle in Wales, managed by the National Trust. The sudden influx of liquid wealth from Bengal into London banks provided the primary capital investment that funded the development of machinery, textile factories, and infrastructure during the birth of the British Industrial Revolution. These ships took 2 weeks to unload in London docks, these also financed all the British empire wars with the new merger army of Sirajul Daul's traitors in Burma, North America, India, Asia, Africa, middle east and Europe.✌
