Princess Gurun Hejing (1756–1775)—the historical model for Princess Zhaohua—was the cherished seventh daughter of the Qianlong Emperor and his favorite consort, Empress Xiaoyichun. Reflecting his deep affection, the Emperor broke strict royal protocol by granting her the highest "Gurun" title, an honor typically reserved exclusively for the daughters of official Empresses. In 1770, she married the influential Mongol prince Lhawang Dorji, but instead of sending her to live in Mongolia, her father permitted the couple to reside permanently in a custom-built, lavish estate inside Beijing. Tragically, her life was cut short when she died of unknown reasons in February 1775 at the young age of 20, leaving the Emperor deeply grief-stricken just months before her own mother passed away.

Her death was a mystery and there are no records in regards to her death. However, historians assumed the she might have died due to her frail body which she inherited from her mother. (Died after 4-6 years after being married to Dorji)
