@socialcap: If you’re attaching the same weight to a dollar at 62 as a dollar at 80? I don’t know, something doesn’t add up to me. #money #finance #wealth #tyler
My simple rule is either: 1) you need it at 62 so start taking it at 62 or 2) you don't need it at 62 so start taking it at 62 and invest the money. 🤷

Benefit at age 62 isn’t $2500. Average is $1400. That’s a huge difference.

But then I can’t work full time, i’d have to go find a part-time, minimum wage job. Fuck that noise I’m 65.

What if my wife is 7 years younger than me? Assuming that I’ll be first to die, shouldn’t I can consider waiting so that she gets a bigger benefit? Her family also has a history of living much longer…

62 would be perfect but please don’t forget you can not get Medicare until you’re 65. That’s huge for a lot of people

I would have to give up my $100k/yr salary (more every year with raises), too retire at 62. I need to work till 65. I'd lose out on $300k+.

I think the break even age is even further out for me, Because I can earn 8% on my money risk free. I have a high net worth and my highest interest rate i pay on my rental real estate loans is 8%.
What is the break even age if you earn 8% interest on the money you receive early and invest?

1000000% correct. You spend less as you get later in retirement.

This one size fits all advice fails miserably. It all depends on personal circumstances and goals. Are you still working? Is your spouse likely to outlive you and you want to ensure she has a higher fixed income after you are gone, which might be important if medical expenses deplete savings? Do you want to have more resources to give your children and grand kids later in your retirement? Is it important that if you live to a ripe old age that you are not a financial burden on others?

Is it still smart to take at 62 if hubby continues to work and earns $400k? Seems like I would just give most of it back in taxes.
