That is the ADHD way. I also turtle when I have too much life at once. The childhood trauma also keeps me from being a burden by asking for help.

Elysian Retreat :
I don't think it's self isolation. It's protecting our energy. (39f, diagnosed last yr with ADHD).
When I'm overwhelmed, I have no energy to ask for help, and when I do, I get "idk how to help you". So I'll do it myself. I rely on the person that has always shown up for me.
I just left a group of friends because it took more than it gave. I have gone through the hardest yr of my life and they all said "I thought you were fine" but they never checked. It's not all on us.
We crave deeper connections, and when we don't have those, we prioritize what we do have energy for. Give yourself some grace. ❤️

But I also don't want anyone to come help bc the thought of anyone coming to help out or just come over to body double gives me so much anxiety and makes the overwhelm worse. 😬

Same!! Buuuut it’s bad when it it lasts for a couple years, right? That’s where I’m at, but my job also adds to that overwhelm bcuz I have to ppl all day on top of other tasks and life and kids and dinners and school (them and me) and I’m just like ugh! I’m not good at life tbh…

I like how you use burnout and drowning as descriptors. I used to explain it as feeling like I was in free fall, like the drop on the roller coaster but with no tracks, or now parachute etc. Lxx

100% my friends sometimes ask after-the-fact (when I share what happened) why I didn't ask for help. Girl, I didn't have the energy to put into words what was happening nor the leftover executive function spoons to tell you what I needed. Nor did I have the ability to sort through the support system for who should be called on for said support.
It does not help that my object permanence issues extend to people, and I have a lot of friends and family not near my immediate vicinity.
