I don’t understand why Disney keeps changing their movies when their original concept is much more interesting! It happened with Frozen, Wish and now Zootopia? I understand they don’t want stories being too heavy, but a lot of popular animated films were successful because the medium trusted its audience. You don’t see that much anymore.

I think Judy’s character speaks to a woman’s experience. Judy had to work extra hard to be a police officer and people still dismissed her when she earned it. I don’t see her as a privileged character in at least that respect. Just like life, it’s way more complicated than just one side. I love that they built more complexity to this. Representing more than one hardship doesn’t take away from the other.

Both versions are important, but I think what they ended up with relays the message better. The oppressed know they’re oppressed, they don’t need a movie telling them they are; they already experience it. But those who aren’t have no clue what it’s like to live a life like that, so a movie where the protagonist’s ignorance directly affects those around her is important. The scene where Nick confronts Judy about that ignorance is probably the most important scene in the movie.

They mainly change the concept because it did not connect well with children like when they screened both versions to kids, the kids preferred to Judy’s version 😭 I wish we got Nick’s story since it would’ve been a generally very interesting concept like the dystopian feel of it would’ve been a very interesting element
