yes i saw him run for 275 and not one touch down. This why I see these running backs today run out bounds and go down with any contact when my childhood watching running backs fight for every yard.

As a 70 year old man from Chicago the Best two running backs i have ever seen live in person are Gale sayers and Walter .Gale was Barry long before Barry career cut short by injuries and a medical system not yet advanced enough to repair knee problems. Walter's skills ,drive and Heart put him so far ahead of the rest of every running back that ever played. Walter was not only the goat at Running back he also was the best football player that has ever played. I feel honored to have seen every single play Walter ran in his career,and for having met him a few times,he was a better person than player.

Walter Payton. Absolutely the best all-around running back that ever played. There was nothing he couldn't do, and when choosing a running back, I would take Walter number one every time.

Best ever. Also met him multiple times, wonderful person. He was not only the greatest RB, he could catch, was a beast of a blocker, was our 3rd string QB, and backup punter. I don’t know of ANY other RB that could do it all like he did.

I grew up a bears fan in Illinois due to my parents during Walter's era. freaking beast. I saw Barry his rookie year and became a Lions fan and stayed. Barry is the absolute best RB ever, but as said in comments, Walter was the BEST all around football player I have ever seen
