My wife's dad is a consulting arborist. he was an expert witness at a case in dana point, california. this guy went on his neighbor's property and cut down eight trees to improve his view. he knew he was going to get sued for it. he was expecting to have to pay twenty or thirty thousand dollars. the judgment was for 460k dollars

Maybe press charges on the company that cut them down for trespassing, here in Louisiana it’s timber trespass or timber theft.

I feel like if he had handled it legally, it would have been to have a talk with you about it and if you refused, all he could do is wait til damage was done to his property and then sue. he would have benefited by having the conversation with you on written record like email or even text in that case. but there was no conversation, and he unilaterally decided to do irreparable damage to your property, so he was absolutely in the wrong.
