How many reasonable adaptations can schools make?

So true! All of it. Took one of my students out to Equine today. He learnt a skill, was amazing, used his body, heard and asked for instructions, behaviour was regulated, was able to do some practical maths with a fence issue.

This just reminds me of when I was in secondary school, half the time I didn’t even know why I was sent to isolation, on 1 occasion all I did was walk into my class and the teacher just clicked their finger at me and said go straight to isolation 🙈 we used to have a “self reflection form” about who sent you there and for what reason, my answer most of the time was I didn’t know what I had done, that’s part of a reason why I just stopped going to school I just thought what’s the point, the teachers either told me off for not writing notes and when I did I was told off for not listening, everything moved too fast so I just gave up

I have a yr11 going to all the after school revisions, and before school revisions, late one morning by 10 minutes...they gave him detention...he just went to after school revision as normal, the school is actually ridiculous sometimes...

My child’s school holds more documentation on behaviour and sanctions than they do on actual SEN delivery. What I received were SEPs with basic, generic strategies, not clear evidence of structured provision, monitoring, intervention records or measurable impact. A plan on paper is not the same as provision in practice. SEPs are not legally binding, and the reality is not all schools consistently deliver what they claim. That is exactly why some children need legally enforceable support through an EHCP.

This is so true! I was constantly emailing the school at the beginning of the new year in year 7, it took them until March to actually listen to me. He’s had none since and even got the most positives last week.
