Muffin has a hemorrhage in her right eye, and you can't help but wonder what she has been through before arriving here. Whatever happened, she now finds herself in one of the most stressful environments imaginable for a sensitive cattle dog. Every bark echoes through the kennel. Every day brings more strangers, more noise, more fear. And now her time is up. She arrived as a stray on May 26. Less than a week later, she is facing euthanasia. Dogs like Muffin often do not show their true selves in a shelter. They shut down. They withdraw. They become shadows of who they are capable of being. The dog sitting in kennel D63 today is not necessarily the dog she would be in a home, on a couch, in a yard, or beside someone willing to give her time to decompress and feel safe. Right now, Muffin doesn't need someone to see the worst day of her life and decide that's who she is. She needs someone willing to believe there is more to her story.
