After 52 long days of sitting tight, Timmy the emu has finally welcomed his very first babies into the world 🥚➡️🐣 Two little fluffballs have hatched out of the five eggs he’s been guarding, and we couldn’t be more stoked to have them on the farm! But, as always with nature, it doesn’t come without challenges. One of the chicks has developed splayed legs 🐥 a condition in poultry where the legs slip out to the sides instead of staying underneath the body. This can happen from slippery hatching surfaces, nutritional deficiencies, or being cramped in the egg. If left untreated, the chick may never stand or walk properly. So, Ashlee grabbed one of her hair ties and we made a little hobble brace to keep his legs aligned 🪢💪 He’s now inside under home care, and already showing signs of improvement! Hopefully, with a bit of TLC, he’ll be up on his feet in no time. It’s Timmy’s very first clutch, so we’re realistic that not all the chicks may make it, but he’s giving it a fair crack, and we’ll do everything we can to give them the best chance. Fun fact: newborn emu chicks are tough little critters. They can survive up to 3–4 days without food or water after hatching, living off the yolk reserves they absorbed before breaking out of the egg. That gives them the strength to follow Dad around once they’re on their feet 🐥 Welcome to the world, little legends 🙌💚 Pretty cute additions to the ONYA farm, and here’s hoping Timmy earns his “Dad of the Year” badge real soon. #ONYA #EmuChicks #WildlifeWarrior #AussieFarmLife #BushChooks
