I learned in lawschool that I should have followed my buddy to Colorado and become a river guide.

Your Friend Susan :
I went to law school because I wanted to change the world. I practiced for 12 years, and tried to make a difference, but it’s nearly impossible. I gave up 9 years ago and changed industries entirely.

I graduated from law School, passed the bar, worked at a firm for a while…quit the whole profession. It broke me. I have no hope.

Daughter of two successful (if it matters) lawyers here - they both told me not to pursue it, apparently my sense of justice/fairness wasn’t compatible for success. I’m so sorry this is your (and so many other’s) experience. It is horrifying. Thank you for trying.

I was a poor-ass Mexican kid from Texas. Got into an Ivy law in the 1980s. Just retired and living large in Cal. My law career taught me everything I know about life and how the world really works. I spent the last 22 years co-managing some 20 attorneys. It is a great profession if you keep shooting for new experiences. Don’t get stuck thinking small.

I was planning on medical school. I have decided to not go, because I cannot handle only being able to treat rich people or people with money. I’m going to use my talents elsewhere where I can actually help others and make a change. I’m so over how screwed up this world is currently.

As a non lawyer with no Parents or grandparents in the law field, I know there are 2 systems which we live under. One for the wealthy, one for the poor. Nothing else matters

first gen here - bout to start this Aug (mid-thirties)! mind you, i'm a very very good litigation paralegal (10 years). I'm excited to learn BUT to also perhaps find ways to push norms. perhaps our legal system is failing because of tthat observation. Question everything! We make up the norms! We can change them!

Law school was also extremely tough for me. The bar is about to break me. I was also a first gen, low income, first time mom struggling and felt like no one could relate to how I was feeling. It was a very dark time for me and now I’m on my 3rd bar attempt. I can’t wait for all of it to be over so I can move on with my life

I went to law school bc I wanted to be a federal prosecutor. Oh how naive I was about the reality of the justice system & how the federal government works. I woke up to that reality & just accepted my fate as another hamster in the system & went to Big Law where at least I’m making good money doing this garbage.

It’s even more insane when you realize different outcomes come from different justices . The makeup of the court is what determines the outcome and not the actual case.

The founders never thought that America would be this large. It’s crazy how we’ve changed so much but our government and law hasn’t

Second generation lawyer. It’s because my brain works the same way as my dad’s. But after 40 years working to uphold the rule of law, it’s heartbreaking to see it evaporating.

As a sociology girly, I’m a big SCOTUS nerd. So, loved this. But I genuinely believe SCOTUS should still physically ride circuit. At least that way they get a feel for the community’s “community standards.” Or maybe a requirement be that every Justice must have personal experience ruling in district courts. Basically, if they’re going to say what laws govern our society, each justice should have to socialize among the people.
