Totally agree with this 100%! But “even if it’s a teacher salary” is pretty dismissive of teachers. Plenty of people live on a teacher’s salary and are doing just fine.

I guess I’m of that previous generation who combined everything. When we were first married, we lived off my salary while he reinvested every dollar into his growing business. Then I became a SAHM when our first child was born. Business was so successful that I didn’t have to return to work when we later divorced. Everything we built was together, so I got half.

It’s 100 percent my business what my partner spends money on and it’s 100 percent their business to know what I spend mine on. There is no my money and her money in a marriage, it’s ours. That’s how it is in a divorce and that’s how it is in a marriage
