@shivanatalks: And obviously “feeling” poor is nothing like actually BEING poor; I just find it interesting how our experiences with money can vary based on so many factors outside of just the number on your paycheck 💰 #PersonalFinance #investing #henry why do rich people still feel poor?

I think an underrated part of lifestyle inflation is responsibility inflation. When I was broke, fixing the AC in my car was way down the priority list compared to just making sure it ran and was safe to drive. But once you can actually afford things, all the little “responsible adult” stuff starts popping out of the woodwork. Suddenly you’re replacing your air filters every month, fixing the AC instead of just dealing with it, keeping up with maintenance, and taking care of all the little things you used to put off because you simply couldn’t afford them. That adds a lot to your daily, monthly, and yearly cost of living. Sometimes it’s not about buying nicer things. It’s just about finally being able to do all the things you always knew you were supposed to do.

I agree with 4! I think the thing for us is when we got “rich”, we assumed we would be able to outsource more tasks. Instead, services are so expensive that we still feel too poor to afford them. Like we need a landscaper, it’s looking like the project will be about a year of savings. We aren’t going to stop saving for college and retirement to pay for landscaping. It’s going to take 3-4 years to save up and that’s if the prices don’t go up at the same time. Childcare, house maintenance, cleaner, etc still fall heavily on our shoulders because the numbers just don’t make sense. It’s frustrating. We could take out a loan, but as you said, the economy is making us pause to take out any more debt.

I think a lot of it is the wealth disparity.

Agree with all these, # 1 especially. I have to stop myself from saying i feel poor at the end of the month when I just put all my leftover money in a retirement or savings account by choice

Number one for real though. You can’t say you live paycheck to paycheck and also shop at Whole Foods for your groceries and spending money on other luxuries
