As a woman…I felt this imediately while watching this. In between all of Indes incredible acting I just kept worrying about Nikki’s suffering…noteably something Bear handwaved away only preoccupied with how he can make it all work so he can keep her.

It's narcissistic behavior. Bear is the narcissist. It was about what he wanted, not what she wanted. Bear was infatuated with Nikki and he was afraid of rejection. He didn't love her, he was in love with the idea of her. She became the victim of his "Obsession ".
