@musicmindlab: 🎹 Johann Sebastian Bach – Fugue in Dm This is such an impressive movement. Bach surely enjoyed playing this on church organs. I had the chance to play it on a real organ in the past… and it is quite an experience. The Fugue from the Toccata and Fugue in Dm is intense, dramatic, powerful… but also incredibly intelligent in the way it is constructed. From a neuroscience perspective, a fugue is fascinating because it works almost like the brain itself. 🧠 Different musical lines enter one after another, crossing, answering, overlapping, and evolving at the same time. The brain has to process multiple musical “conversations” in parallel while still understanding the global structure and emotional direction of the piece. That is one reason fugues can feel so alive and overwhelming emotionally. In this falling notes performance, I did not want to simply play many notes fast. I wanted to bring expressivity, tension, movement, breathing, and emotional direction to the music. Bach was not only writing notes. Why did you swap the bass and soprano parts in the second episode? The bass line had the main melody, but you played it in the soprano instead, and moved the accompaniment to the bass.
