People who are saying the wish in itself is evil are crazy. Anyone who’s had a huge crush on someone has “wished that person loves them” in their head, and that’s totally innocent. Doesn’t mean they wish that person loses their autonomy. Bear obviously didn’t think it would actually work. He doesn’t become the villain until he asks to modify the wish instead of cancel it.

I'm sorry how is desiring to take away someone's autonomy not evil. The director himself even stated that it's his wish that's cursed, not the one wish willow. He purposely chose to word it that way. Even if he knew it wasn't real, he still viewed her autonomy as less important than his ability to feel loved. He never cared about her

I would agree more if the director had not actively stated that Bear’s wish was corrupt and evil. That wishing to take away autonomy it someone is at its core corrupt

sure, he couldnt have known it would work. but his wish was still INCREDIBLY weird and not something a normal person with a crush would wish for. I equate it to those "love potions/spells" on tiktok, they obviously dont work but people who do them for their crushes are still very weird

lowkey i get this take but if you watch from the start bear is just a messed up dude in general. he leaves the cabinet open and the pill jar open then blames his cat. instead of a nice burial or anything he just dumps it in the trash. he doesn't biy nikki what she would like and just gets a novelty toy and then doesn't even give it to her

The wish itself was bad, "I wish Nikki would love me the most in the world". He could've word it differently like "I wish Nikki felt the same way I did", "I wish I was Nikkis type" and etc but its ridiculous to wish for her to love him the most. She probably has family or friends she loves more than him maybe even hobbies

There’s some nuance here. Plenty of people “wish” somebody would love them. That doesn’t mean they truly desire to take away their autonomy. It’s simply wistful thinking. People are taking offense to the notion that it’s an “evil” wish because they’re applying it to themselves and getting defensive. The difference with Bear is that his later actions show that he *would* have been fine with taking her autonomy. He didn’t know that the wish worked in the moment but even after he did realize it worked he didn’t try to undue it. He tried to alter it. He was fine with her having no autonomy his primary concern was how it inconvenienced him. Even when she’s begging for help, he is spiteful and goes “is loving me really so bad”. So is wishing someone loves you inherently a desire to take away their autonomy? No. Was it in Bears case? Seems to be.

Nah, this take is pretty valid. I will say his wish was still crazy tho, “more than anyone else in the world” he knew his intentions weren’t good despite obviously not believing the wish would work. The wish itself, and in affect his mindset, was still inherently bad.

I think he became evil once he realized something was really wrong and he found out the wish was real but continued to do stuff with her. the highest point of him being evil was finding out the real Nikki was still in there begging him to kill her and he leaves her there to suffer

Perhaps the point isn't to wish others would change for us, but for us to have the courage to change ourselves, to be okay with us first, then let love flow naturally. Or, I could be reading too much into it?

even if he didnt know the wording he chose was still insane… anyone else wouldve just say “i wish she liked me back”. the fact that he said “i wish she loved me more than anyone else in the entire world” already shows how he saw her (not a real person with real feelings and autonomy) and what he wanted from her (devotion instead of love)
