Matrescence is not talked about NEAR as much as it should be & I think that’s part of why it hit me like a train. Looking back from the other side I just want to give my old self a hug and tell her it gets so much better after the transformation!!!!

You know, when I announced that I was pregnant everyone warned me about not sleeping enough, having to clean all the time etc etc but nobody warned me about this weird feeling of cannot imagining your life without your baby but at the same time grieving your life before the baby. My son is 2 years old and I sometimes look at my husband and I want to cry about having lost that spontaneity we used to have, being just the two of us. It's so weird and heartbreaking and full of guilt for missing your old life. I don't want a life without my son, he's my everything, I just want to make a little space to find my new self and enjoy my husband as well.

I’ve always said that I died on that table (c-section) meaning the woman I was, the final piece of my girlhood. but then I see my kids pet our cats fawning over their softness, or run around in the sprinkler screaming and laughing, or make a mess in the kitchen trying to bake and I feel - just for a moment - that I’m a little girl again, basking in the warmth of life

This is absolutely beautiful. I feel it in my bones. When I was in labor, I truly transcended into a different dimension. I was not here on earth, I was somewhere in the cosmos. I could barely hear anyone or really see anything. I birthed unmedicated, so I know this wasn’t a drug side effect, but probably just my brain protecting me. But just like the Mayans say, I felt as though I traveled to the stars to receive the soul of my baby and together, we returned to earth. When he came out, I finally came to. I came back to my body, my senses, my mind. My old self is somewhere up there in the stars but the new her is doing just fine. Better, actually. 🖤

This rings extra deep as a mom who had to leave the hospital without her baby and without her old self 💔 I can't wait to see you again, my sweet girl 😭

I’ve always said this too, the old us dies and we’re reborn into these new people, as mothers. It’s eerie and we do it all alone. It was the loneliest I have ever been in my life.

My second is 6.5 months old… I feel like I’ve been treading water in the ocean for 6.5 months. I’m tired. I’m stressed. I’m in need of a life jacket. I love being mom, but I miss being Jess.

When your children grow up your old self awakens again. She’s not gone. She’s just asleep. 🥰

"You're about to meet someone new, and it's not your baby..." rings in my head all the time. We are constantly becoming new to be better for our children.🩷

Genuinely not enough is done to educate on mental health after birth. I became a completely different person and my marriage almost ended in divorce. I’m still struggling today at 3 years in. It’s the main reason I won’t have another. 😢

For very long I yearned for the old me, I grieved her. It took about 3 years to realize I was resisting who I was always meant to be. As a mother I have been forced to really heal, learn, be patient, be kinder, stronger… I wish I had known sooner.

2 years pp- childbirth completely broke me, but in the best way possible. The day my daughter was born, was also the day another version of myself was born… the amount of change a woman goes through after childbirth isn’t emphasized as much as it should. And 100% yes to- “you’ll understand when you become a mother”

This is the big thing that scares me about having a baby. Will I ever be able to recognize myself again?
