maybe you can contact the airport to share your experience. So that least, people can go in a private area where you can better show that it is a wig or something. Indeed it is not alright to do that in public especially that it can be a delicate moment for someone. I wish there were better advocacy in that matter. Sorry for your experience!

I travel internationally at least 5 times a year. I’ve only triggered the alarm a handful of times. Usually it’s quick, pleasant, painless — unlike this experience

In the event that an officer asks to look underneath the wig or inspect it more closely, you do not have to do this in public. You can immediately request a private screening room, and you are allowed to bring your travel partner or a companion into the room with you. If a TSA agent is disrespectful or demands you remove your wig in the middle of the public line, calmly and firmly ask to speak to a TSA Supervisor.

That’s one of my worst fear, so I always keep my wig in the carryon bag and put it on after the security check. Just find a bathroom with mirror near the boarding gate and put it on.

If it is the clips, it could be a different type of metal used. Sometimes machines won’t go off sometimes they will.
