I do like the age gap change, if only bc it highlights the kind of immaturity Lestat has that age doesn’t really put a dent in

lestat just accumulates drama and trauma at such a speed you would hope he is older

I think the show really emphasizes how important that age gap is between them wen at the end of season 2, Louie apologizes to Lestat, that with time and perspective he can see that vampirism was a gift. Where like in the early and mid 1900s he can't understand the gift or Lestat because he's still in his human timeline. Even though he's not human anymore, that's still a period when he could be alive. It's not till he reaches an age that he would no longer be around as a human that he understands, this is a gift and what lestat saw in vampirism.

I think some of Lestat’s actions in the book are more logical considering he’s not that old and considering what he went through RIGHT BEFORE he hits NOLA. But I do like how they changed the timeline in the show, esp changing what Louis was doing pre-vampire

I haven't been far in the first book yet(I'm an unmotivated reader, I haven't been to Claudia yet) but it cracked me up how Louid was just like "omg this guy's actually so stupid" as soon as he was turned💀

Hello :
I like the age gap in the books. If you keep in mind that Lestat is just a young idiot vampire in love his actions make more sense as well as his ignorance on vampire society and things related to being a vampire. It’s a huge point of contention between them that he’s not a good mentor to Louis but he’s also inexperienced too.

also improves on how compelling their relationship is, lestat didn’t find love after nicky’s death until he met louis, which was around 100 years? coincidentally improving on the depth of his and nicky’s relationship imo

I think the change works for the show because its so different. lestat having a living father and being so "young" was interesting in the book because it made him feel less credible after a minute of thinking, it was the books way of showing how unreliable lestat is imo, he tries to come off as this above it all wise vampire at first but then you see the guy has a living father he hates and it starts to make the reader question if this guy is who he presents himself as. The TV show had its own ways of conveying the same message

Another tidbit is that after everything with Those Who Must Be Kept, Marius sends Lestat away because he believes he still needs to truly live a full life and experience growing up, since he was turned so young (at 20). He is the one who tells him to go to Louisiana, see his father through the end of his life, and learn from it. And of course almost immediately after that, Lestat meets Louis (who reminds him of Nicolas), falls in love with him, turns both Louis and eventually Claudia, and they live together for almost 70 years (a full human life as Marius told him to).

My first encounter with Lester was from the old movie interview with the vampire. Afterward, I read the books. When Lester brought his father to Louis’s house it weirded me out

I prefer the age gap in the books because I’m lowkey tired of immortals being so much older than their significant others

while i see why they put louis a little further forward in time-- and i really appreciate how well that works-- i also think lestat's relationship with his father is one of the most compelling and dark parts of the intv book. it's a shame that we lost that entirely. i hope we see at least some of that in the next season

I would like to add that Lestat gest turned around 21 years old, so he's pretty much immature forever, while Louis is already 25/26... Armand is turned when he's 17 though 😳

the age gap brings so much complexity to their relationship, it shows how much louis thinks hes superior to lestat even tho hes older, and it enhances the "maker-fledgling vs master-servat" dynamic that daniel talks about so much in s1
