Can the octopus write a symphony? Can the octopus turn a canvas into a beautiful masterpiece?

I loved the movie. The octopus is supposed to sound that way, it's kind of the point.

because the octopus is supposed to display humans perceived superiority to other animals. we are literally constantly comparing our intelligence to other animals as a way to validate our species' dominance. at the end of the movie he refers to the humans as remarkably bright creatures which flips the premise of the movie on its head and lines up why the octopus is pretentious because we have been pretentious the whole movie by marvelling at its brightness when it's just as smart as we are but in different mediums. neither is superior yet they both perceive that they are.

Agree. The octopus was a a-hole. Acts all superior and yet doesn’t even have a car or basic cable.

i think you missed the point: this choice of personality is how humans think of animals, so its an interesting "switch" on how humans observe other beings from our assumption of being "super intelligent" (exclusively)

oh boy, if you hate him in the movie, you'd absolutely hate the book. They cut down his role significantly in the movie 🤣

You miss the irony. But it’s okay. The creatures ego is created by humans obviously 😂 but also reflects on how humans look at animals.

This makes me want to watch it. He’s clearly intentionally written to be insufferable, which is a good thing.

im not sure if this video was supposed to be rage bait. it was the movie adaptation of the book, which was Marcel's (the octopus) perspective.

That’s the point, he’s explaining his own shadows; it’s self recognition. That’s why Marcellus is narrates “I’m so intelligent and complex…” right before panning to him stuck in some electrical wire, requiring a dumb human to save him, the same reason he’s there. He’s coming to grips with how much he needed humans to fulfill his purpose.

It worked slightly better as a book, but the constant “enlightened creature” speak outwore its welcome about 1/3 of the way through
