Words of My Perfect Teacher is also a solid introduction to the Tibetan system. Dr. Bob Thurman's translation of Bardo Thodol ("Book of the Dead") starts with a great introduction as well. I've been getting into some of Namkhai Norbu Rinpoche's books, but that's after some experience with Tantra and Dzogchen.
