I also feel like this is what Don’t Worry Darling tried to do

“what’s so bad about being with me?” scariest scene in the movie

I was so struck by an interview with the director saying that bear's wish going bad doesn't mean that all of the willow wishes go bad. it's just that bear wished for something that is inherently rotten and cursed.

Was the name “bear” intentional with the whole man or the bear discourse?

When they’re on their date and he asks her about her dad and she says “does it matter” and he says no and then it cuts to the next scene 🥴

the way you never actually hear about Nikki's feelings from her is also so disturbing. she NEVER has any agency or actual personhood in the movie and her feelings are always interpreted through other people.

The people believing that NIKKI IS THE BAD GUY ?! I was like what the hell? How is that even true?!

What gets me about the film is also how the friendship dynamics enables Bear’s behavior and almost like no one has actual care for who Nikki is.

Bears character just reminds me of the ‘Nice Guy’ mentality. Like if there’s a chance to get away with it, then they’ll 100% do it. The actor who played Bear did such an amazing job. He added so much to that character that wasn’t previously written.

Loved this movie! I also can’t help but think of how it can also be a commentary on sex bots as AI because more and more prevalent. I have no doubt that if certain laws don’t get put into place that bots will be made using people’s likeness and even voices….

Also her crying “what did you do” at the end just felt like she was so mad because all he had to do was step up and say anything

I cannot stop thinking about this movie! I know Bear/Nikki is obviously the main focus but I loved how Ian and Sarah's characters also showed the themes of coercion and control. They both wanted to manipulate Bear and Nikki as well to get their desired outcomes. It also was tragic to me bc there was definitely genuine care and closeness between Nikki and Bear and if he was able to be emotionally vulnerable with Nikki and tell her how he felt, there would have been no need for the wish! I interpreted her as being disappointed when he lied and said he didn't like her! I thought she was definitely into him as well. It really hit the themes about how in modern dating culture, people just want to skip to the good part of being in love... they don't want to put themselves out there and experience any sort of awkwardness or discomfort but those are two emotions that exist alongside true love and companionship. Anyway, such a good film I loved it.

i’ve seen this brought up in other posts, but i think its important to note that Bear’s wish wasn’t directed towards himself. he COULD have wished to be more confident or to know if she felt the same, but in his mind, the only way for them to be together was for HER to love him.

what’s insane to me is that the thing he thinks is wrong about what he’s done is the phrasing of his wish 😱

I cannot stop thinking about this movie. I knew it was going to be crazy but I didn’t expect to get such a great commentary on consent and submission with it too. Insane money, I loved it.
