🇧🇬❤️ BULGARIA AT THE EUROPEAN CULTURAL HERITAGE FESTIVAL IN PETERBOROUGH ❤️🇧🇬 (Bulgarian translation below). We are still overwhelmed by the emotions of an unforgettable day filled with music, dance, friendship, and cultural diversity. We had the honour and privilege of representing Bulgaria at the second European Cultural Heritage Festival in Peterborough – an inspiring event that brought together representatives from seven European countries, dozens of performers, cultural organisations, distinguished guests, and hundreds of visitors, all united by one shared belief: that culture has the power to connect people beyond borders, languages, and nationalities. For almost ten years, Folk Dance Formation "Bulgaria" Midlands and our community have worked tirelessly to promote cultural awareness, community cohesion and our Bulgarian culture, traditions, and folklore throughout the Midlands and across the United Kingdom and abroad. Over the years, we have collaborated with local authorities, educational institutions, police services, organisations supporting migrant communities, as well as numerous cultural and community groups. We have proudly represented Bulgaria at international festivals, cultural forums, and events both in the UK and abroad because we firmly believe that culture and folk music and dance are not only an art form but also a bridge that brings people together. Peterborough holds a special place in our hearts as it is home to one of our dance schools. For this reason, we were especially honoured and excited to receive an invitation from Petko Pramatarov, Little Bulgaria UK and the ZI Foundation to take part in this wonderful festival. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Mihail Stoyanov, Dr Ivelina Banyalieva, Mr Zilur Hussein MBE, and the entire organising team for their impeccable organisation, professionalism, warm welcome, and the care they showed us throughout the day. Every detail had been thoughtfully planned, and the way all participants were treated was a true example of hospitality, respect, and community spirit. Dear organisers, you created much more than a festival; you created a space where different cultures could meet as friends. It will be our pleasure to support your future initiatives and projects, and we very much look forward to working together again, because we deeply believe in the mission behind your work. We were also honoured by the presence of His Excellency Tihomir Stoytchev, Ambassador of the Republic of Bulgaria to the United Kingdom, Dr Lyubka Stoycheva, Julie Spence OBE DL, Lord-Lieutenant of Cambridgeshire and representative of His Majesty The King, Paul Bristow, Mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, Andrew Bond, Deputy Mayor of Peterborough, Dr Shabina Qayyum, and many other distinguished guests who supported the event with their presence. We were delighted to welcome Ambassador Stoytchev in accordance with a cherished Bulgarian tradition, offering him a beautifully prepared traditional pita bread, specially made for the occasion by one of our dancers from our Peterborough school. It was a small but heartfelt gesture that reflected the warmth, hospitality, and respect that are such important parts of our Bulgarian culture. One of the most powerful messages shared by the distinguished speakers throughout the day was the importance of events such as this in fostering social connection, emotional wellbeing, and mental health within our communities. This is a subject that is particularly close to our heart and one that has been at the core of our work for many years. We have often spoken about the positive impact that Bulgarian folk dancing has in combating loneliness, isolation, and stress among Bulgarians living abroad, a topic on which I also had the honour of being interviewed by Bulgarian National Radio a few months ago. Perhaps the most valuable part of the day, however, was the people. #europeanculturalheritagefestival #bulgariancommunityuk #българскитанци
