thing is about getting a better job, getting the qualifications necessary to get that job means more debt I have more debt then it costs me money that I don't have. have to dig a 5-10,000 hole so that I can make an extra seven Grand a year that's fucking stupid. if I don't have enough money why would I want to cost myself money before I start making money

“Just get a better job” and “just move” are such painfully out-of-touch takes. People are working full-time and still can’t afford rent, groceries, gas, and basic survival because wages stayed in 2012 while prices went full feral. And moving isn’t free. Deposits, trucks, time off, application fees... that advice basically translates to “have you tried not being poor?” Some of y’all treat poverty like a personal failure instead of a system designed to keep people drowning.

they can't seem to grasp that your wage - no matter how high or low - should still be a liveable wage. when I earned a lower wage, I was able to afford a simple, tiny $600 apartment. that same apartment is currently $1600. it's not the wage, it's the cost of everything around us going up as well. when I earned more, I was able to get a bigger place. in both instances, I was able to survive.

Every economist suggests housing should be 30% of your budget to "live within your means" the average monthly housing cost (mortgage and rent both) is 43% of the average yearly income after taxes per month.... so you cant just "work" your way out that. So for the average person its impossible to "live within your means", not to mention those that are below average. you have to somehow make 15% higher than the average salary to even "live within your means"

what I've learned from seeing Caleb Hammer clips is it doesn't matter how much a person makes if you don't know how to be actually financially responsible for your money if you don't know how to budget if you don't know how to invest correctly you can be making half a million dollars a year and be living paycheck to paycheck
