Good morning everyone 😊 So today, I decided to test both their patience and mine l. Most dogs get super excited whenever it rains. The cool weather, puddles everywhere, fresh smells… it’s basically fun time for them. Nova especially was too excited and ready to fly through that door immediately 😂 But this is where leadership and control matters. Instead of opening the door while the excitement was at its peak, I stayed patient and waited for them to calm down first. No shouting, no rushing, no repeating commands over and over… just calm energy and patience until they settled. Because the truth is, an overexcited dog hardly listens properly, but a calm dog pays attention. The moment they relaxed and focused back on me, I gave the release command and of course they ran out like little kids finally getting break time 🤣 But the beautiful part is even with all that excitement, the connection and structure was still there. I could still guide them, let them do their business peacefully, and call them right back inside without any drama but of course Nova will always give drama . That’s what consistency and patience does. You don’t always need force or too many commands. Sometimes you just need calm leadership, structure, timing, and trust. I always say this, let dogs enjoy themselves, let them have fun, but never lose the structure that keeps you connected to them. Being their dad means being their safe space, their guide, and sometimes the boring guy that says “calm down first” before fun starts Anyways, happy rainy week from me Max and the girls.
