Replying to @Kayla ✨🏔 Gear review: Satellite Communication Bivy Stick ⤵️ I only recommend products I use myself (A D). The @bivy has been a key part of my safety while hiking and camping out of service for the last few months. The Bivy Stick does not have a screen on the device itself but works alongside their mobile app, so to utilize all the features you will need a phone. I film everything on my phone so this was ideal for me to save money vs. buying a device that has a screen. Features: 🆘 SOS button: this works even if your phone breaks or battery dies. Hold the button on the device for 3 seconds and Global Rescue will be notified with your exact location and send a local rescue team. 💬 MESSAGING: All plans give you unlimited check in messages to pre-set contact(s). On top of that, depending on which plan you choose, you can text as you would with your phone, out of cell service, to anyone. 🗺️ MAPS: You can download a detailed map of an area with trails 🌦️ WEATHER FORECASTS: It shows upcoming weather in the area which is really important to me for snow and rain 🪶 LIGHTWEIGHT: it’s really lightweight at only 3.35 oz. For comparison Garmin InReach mini is 3.5 oz and Zoleo is 5.3 oz. 💵 COST: The Bivy Stick is one of the more affordable options out there. $300 for the device and the monthly subscription has no activation fee so you can cancel for the months not in use. The lowest plan is $15/month. For comparison, the Garmin InReach Mini 2 is $450 right now + the monthly plan. 🔋 BATTERY LIFE: I put my phone in airplane mode to preserve the charge. I always bring a power bank to charge my phone at the end of the day and every 4 days I charge the Bivy if I have 24/7 tracking on.
