JAWAR MOHAMMED, OROMUMMA AND THE AMHARA GENOCIDE: WHO WILL ANSWER FOR AMHARA SUFFERING? I am furious that our suffering continues to be minimized while the political figures who helped shape Ethiopia’s ethnic politics escape difficult questions about their own records. Jawar Mohammed’s political resume cannot be separated from his history as an Oromo nationalist activist, his influence through Oromia Media Network (OMN), his role during the Oromo protests and his later entry into formal politics. His political rhetoric and the messages attributed to him deserve serious scrutiny. What deeply concerns me are the statements, including “Ethiopia out of Oromia!” and repeated calls for non Oromos to be slaughtered if they looked up “ማንም ደፍሮ ቀና አይልም አንገቱን በሜንጫ ነው የምንለው”. These calls have touched the ground via the current regime in Ethiopia. Amhara civilians have been massacred in Oromia region, including Wollega and Arsi and reports of mass graves demand credible, independent investigation. When rhetoric dehumanizes people and civilians are slaughtered, the public deserves answers and accountability NOT silence. Why should Ethiopians accept one message in Oromo language, another message of “Ethiopian unity” in Amharic, and a peaceful, moderate image in English for international audiences? If these messages contradict one another, which version reflects his actual political position? Ethiopians deserve consistency, transparency, and accountability. Not different narratives for different audiences. Meanwhile, Amhara civilians continue to endure killings, displacement and devastating insecurity. Where is the same urgency, outrage and solidarity for their suffering? Let me be clear: this is not an accusation against the Oromo people. It is a demand that influential political figures answer for their own words, actions and responsibilities. I am Amhara. I will not apologize for demanding justice for my people. I will not accept a world in which our suffering is politically inconvenient, our victims are forgotten and our cries for accountability are dismissed. OUR LIVES ARE NOT POLITICAL CURRENCY. OUR SUFFERING IS NOT NEGOTIABLE AND OUR SILENCE WILL NOT BE THE PRICE OF SOMEONE ELSE’S POWER. The Amhara people deserve justice. Every Ethiopian civilian deserves protection.
