I don’t think they had racist intentions (but what do I know 😅), growing up in Essex I remember a lot of pressure to speak “properly” but that mainly meant enunciation etc. Though no one should be judged for an accent if it’s from where they grew up and it’s not put on as an act 🤷♀️complicated

They never even mentioned accents though. Saying “speak properly” can just mean using correct grammar and a better vocabulary. A lot of people in the UK struggle with that regardless of race, but people are acting like it automatically meant accents because they were so determined to prove it was about code-switching.
